Stewards' Cup Tip: Polybius
Finished fourth in the Wokingham when disadvantaged by racing from a high draw. Clocked the fastest closing sectional of the race.
Projection and Polybius finished third and fourth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot but they finished 1-2 on the nearside rail and occupy the same positions in the antepost betting for the Stewards’ Cup.
There positions at the head of the betting is sound. Both were disadvantaged by racing against the nearside rail from a high draw. Lancelot Du Lac took the far side along at a stronger early gallop, hitting the 2f pole three lengths ahead of the nearside group led by Poyle Vinnie.
Projection and Polybius were therefore unlucky to be beaten under a length but I think there placing might be reversed. Polybius ran then faster closing sectional of the pair by 0.19s and was at a greater disadvantage the way the race panned out.
He finished second last time out behind Danzeno racing over an inadequate 5f but showing he has the pace for a sharp 6f. That’s what he gets in the Steward’s Cup and in my book i make him favourite.
