Stewards' Cup Preview

We give you the low-down on all the runners for Goodwood's big sprint handicap at 3.45

The Stewards’ Cup is one of the most competitive handicaps of the summer and the betting highlight of Glorious Goodwood. We give you a pin-stickers guide to all the runners and riders. Horses are listed by their draw; with stall one closest to the far side rail.

1. Mac´s Power: 10/1
A hold-up horse who has gone up 10lbs without winning. Can be unlucky with his style of running and poorly drawn.

2. Dafeef: 25/1
Big ask after almost a year off the track.

3. Mon Cadeaux: 33/1
Badly handicapped on what he has achieved.

4. Global City: 50/1
Hasn’t shown anything for over a year and a half now.

5. Secret Asset : 33/1
Won on Tuesday but very inconsistent. Probably better over 5f.

6. Crown Choice: 20/1
Good winner over course and distance. Can get himself worked up and inconsistent as a result. A chance on his best form.

7. Fathsta: 25/1
Solid performer but might get tapped for toe on this sharp track.

8. Brave Prospector: 40/1
Will spring up eventually but doesn’t look as good as his mark.

9. Atlantic Sport: 40/1
Hasn’t won since 2008 and unsure what his best trip is.

10. Edinburgh Knight: 12/1
Progressive sprinter, best fresh. Arrives after a decent break and should go close.

11. Quest For Success: 33/1
Ground might become too firm but at the top of his game right now.

12. Jimmy Styles: 33/1
Carries a lot of weight and performances of late suggest he is not up to it.

13. Tax Free: 40/1
Best in small fields when able to dictate.

14. Evens And Odds: 22/1
Winner and second in the last two years. Arrives not in top form but that not stopped him before. Stable starting to warm up nicely.
15. Victoire De Lyphar : 15/1
Has run well at the track before but not shown much this season. Might bounce back with stable in better form now.

16. Fitz Flyer: 40/1
Pace horse who won’t be allowed to lead on his own.

17. Tajneed: 25/1
Saves his winning for Ripon but running well enough to show up well.

18. Hoof It: 7/1
Won two of his three starts this year looking a smart prospect. Weighted to the hilt as a result and a poor traveller. Lost on his only trip away from York this year.

19. Cape To Rio: 50/1
Not won since juvenile days and nothing to suggest he will.

20. Kanaf: 25/1
Flopped when raced at the track at start of the season. Has hit form since but this is a big step up in grade and questions to answer still.

21. Colonel Mak: 16/1
Held by Quest For Success on his last run. One to look out for at Ayr later in the season.

22. Lui Rei: 33/1
Has run well at Goodwood early this season behind Crown Choice but form has tailed off recently.

23. Ancient Cross: 25/1
Having a very productive season but success has been over five furlongs.

24. Pastoral Player: 20/1
Started the season looking like a sprinter to follow. Had excuses for his last two runs (grounds & trip) could bounce back if the draw doesn’t become a negative.

25. Docofthebay: 25/1
Very consistent, he deserves to win one of these but well held by Pastoral Player last time they met.

26. Tiddliwinks: 20/1
Fourth in the Stewards’ consolation race when unlucky with the draw. Kept on improving and a career best when he placed in Group company. Big chance.

27. Nasri: 25/1
Better over seven furlongs.

28. High Standing: 25/1
Probably the best horse in the race, he looked back to close to his best last time out. Will need luck to avoid being boxed in on the rail.
