Sprint Stakes Tip: Deacon Blues

Won his last four starts, all with relative ease. Is getting better with every run and surely a Group One winner in waiting.

The 2.25 at Ascot is a fascinating and valuable sprint. The race comes down to two horses, Prix Maurice De Gheest winner Moonlight Cloud and Wokingham winner Deacon Blues. I have plumped for the latter.

If Deacon Blues hadn’t been hampered on his reappearance he would have won all five of his races this season. Gelded over the winter, the operation must be rated a success considering the improvement trainer James Fanshawe has found. This horse first showed his hand when winning the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. One of the hottest sprints of the summer, it is invariably won by a smart horse.

Since that triumph, he has gone from strength to strength. He blitzed a Group Three in Ireland by seven lengths and even managed to win a Group race when dropped back in trip. The manner of his victories seems to be getting easier and easier. This is a serious horse, who is improving with every run. Take the 11/4 with Betfred on this excellent sprinter.
