Southwell Tips: Something Lucky

Much improved since the move to Michael Appleby and fast closing sectional in victory suggests more to come.

The 2.10 Southwell is battle between a horse going up in class (Something Lucky) and a horse dropping in grade (Crosse Fire). As often at Southwell, to settle the debate we can refer to the clock.

Something Lucky won his last race in 58.17s, where as Crosse Fire mustered a 58.78s in fourth. Obviously a straight comparison is unfair because they were achieved on different days but Something Lucky clocked his, faster time, in an inefficient manner.

The 6-year-old was slow through the first 3f but came home in a rapid 58.17s, earning an adjusted speed rating of 63. He’s got to face better opposition but his closing sectional suggests he has something in reserve.
