Southwell: Signore Piccolo
Finished tenth but not beaten that far on return form 484-day break; showed bright early speed before tiring. Well-handicapped on best form and not out of this.
Signore Piccolo has barely seen a race track in the last couple of years but in an open looking contest he is overpriced. Now a 10-year-old his best days are probably behind him but it is interesting that connections still persist.
He made his return from a 484 day break to finish 10th at Newcastle but it was a performance with encouragement. He was only beaten 3.25 lengths and showed good early pace before understandably tiring.
Well-handicapped on his best form, a mark of 63 is workable and the return from wind surgery could be viewed as another positive. There is enough there to be optimistic at a price.
