Southwell: San Juan

Won last two over course and distance and lost nothing in defeat when clocking good speed rating in above average race at Chelmsford; where neither track nor trip were optimal.

Having won his last two starts over course and distance, the last at a canter, i’m surprised San Juan isn’t a fair bit shorter for the 3.15 Southwell. That might have something to do with his defeat at Chelmsford last time out but I was impressed. It was an above average race for the grade, produced an good speed ratings for the top-3 and it was over 6f, not necessarily ideal conditions for San Juan.

He’s such a strong traveller, he looks better suited to the Fibresand and the straight 5f appears his ideal trip. Chelmsford showed what he was capable when not getting optimal conditions and therefore we can expect even more over a trip and track he loves.
