Shergar Cup Tips: Ahtoug
Always runs well at the track and a close third in the race last year.
Ahtoug hasn’t won for a couple of years but he’s never run a bad race at Ascot and he can make it fourth time lucky at the track in the 2.05.
Last year he finished a close third in the race, only half a length behind the winner, who got first run on him. He’s been lightly raced since then but returned to Ascot in July, again running with credit.
He was undone by a combination of a slow pace and a poor draw on his penultimate start, whereas 13 days ago he probably raced too close to a strong pace.
Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira takes the ride and although unfamiliar to British punters, he’s a safe bet having been champion jockey in Singapore and broken numerous records during his career.
