Sedgefield Tips: Global Flyer

A consistent performer who has won 4 of his last 11 starts. Races at his optimal trip today.

Dropping down in class, Buck Mulligan looks the best horse in the 3.20 Sedgefield and the bookmakers predictably make him favourite. However, he has never won over a trip this short and hasn’t won over fences since 2010 - he doesn’t appeal from a betting perspective.

At a bigger price, I fancy Global Flyer could run better than his odds. He unseated on his last start at Fakenham but that wasn’t entirely his fault as a rival jumped across him. If his jockey had stayed on board he’d probably have finished 5th, a good result over a trip that stretched his stamina.

A switch back to 2m4f is in his favour; his career best run came at this distance when winning at Wetherby in May. He is a consistent horse and a sound jumper and although he might lack the ability to win a class 3 handicap, this is a weak race for the grade, the majority of runners are rated well below the handicap ceiling. At 20/1 (Bet365) he is the value bet.
