Scottish Grand National Tip: Blazing Bailey

Scottish Grand National

Has been a revelation since being upped in trip this year and has that touch of class.

Another week and another National, this time we hop over the border to Ayr for the Scottish Grand National. The race gets under way at 3.25 on Saturday and the same rules apply when looking for the winner. As discussed in our Grand National trends article, horses need to fit a certain profile to have a chance of winning these marathon races. One such horse is Blazing Bailey.

Once a smart hurdler, he has a World Hurdle fourth place on his CV. Since then his move to chasing had been unspectacular, until the turn of the year. On New Year’s Day he took a decent 3m2f handicap at Cheltenham proving that staying was the name of his game. He followed up that win with success at Ffos Las to prove it was not a fluke.

When racing at the festival, he finished a distant ninth in the Stewart Family Spinal Research Handicap Chase. That was over an inadequate three miles but he finished full of running, staying on from way back. The step up to four miles seems perfect for the horse, he jumps well and has that bit of class to take a race of this nature.

*I recommend backing him each way with Bet365 or Victor Chandler who are paying out on the top five finishers.
