Sandown Tip: Vintage Brut

Impressive winner on debut. Didn't beat much but earned sectional adjusted speed rating of 83 and fastest closer in the race by 1.55s. Has best of the draw in stall 1.

A low draw has traditionally been the place to be on Sandown’s 5f track and that is born out in previous renewals of the National Stakes. The last six winners have come from stall 3 or lower and the draw could play a significant role again.

Vintage Brut has the best of things in stall 1 but he’s got plenty in his favour beyond his starting gate. A winner on debut at Thirsk, he clocked an impressive sectional adjusted speed rating of 83 and although the opposition might not have been up to much he covered the final 3f, 1.55s quicker than anything else in the race. He was sent off at 25/1 last time but he might be a useful sprinter.
