Royal Hunt Cup Pace Chart

We look where the pace is drawn in the mile handicap at 4.25 Wednesday.

With 30 runners spread across the track in the Royal Hunt Cup (4.25 Wednesday), the race could be dependant on where the early pace is. Using a method presented by Jon Gibby in the excellent book, “Well-Handicapped Horses” we can rank horses by their early speed. Looking at their last three runs, they are awarded points on how prominently they raced. The horses with the highest numbers are deemed the ‘pace makers’.

Looking at the ratings, all the pace is drawn low this year. Arabian Star is the obvious pace-setter but there are several horses around him who could challenge for the early lead. Beyond stall 12 there is very little pace, only Brae Hill in stall 22 is a leader with everything around him used to being held up. There is likely to be a split with low numbers advantaged.
