Queen Anne Stakes Tips: Elusive Kate

Group 1 winner last season and unlucky in at least three other starts. Could get a soft lead.

Animal Kingdom is a warm order to win the Queen Anne Stakes (2.30 Ascot) but there are good reasons to oppose him at the current odds.

He might be a two-time Group 1 winner but both those victories came over 10f, the two times he’s tackled a mile, he has lost.  Secondly, he is used to running around a bend in the United States, whereas today he tackles Ascot’s straight mile.

In alien conditions, Animal Kingdom could be vulnerable, if he underperforms fellow Group 1 winner Elusive Kate could pick-up the pieces at 6/1 (Paddy Power).

A classy filly, she won the Prix Rothschild at Deauville last season and finished in the top-three in her four other starts. If anything she was slightly unlucky, twice she raced on unsuitably soft ground and in the Sun Chariot Stakes, she stumbled badly as the stalls opened and ripped off a shoe.

With no confirmed front-runner in the lineup, William Buick could get a soft lead making Elusive Kate difficult to pass. As an added bonus Paddy Power are refunding all losing bets if Animal Kingdom wins; valuable insurance if I turn out to be completely wrong.
