Queen Anne Stakes Tip: Goldikova

Royal Ascot gets off to a bang with the Queen Anne Stakes at 2.30. It is an absolute treat to see Goldikova still in training and we have a fascinating match up with Canford Cliffs.

Both are top class horses and it’s one for the racing purists. When it comes to betting however I cannot see past the French superstar.  A winner of 13 Group Ones races, you don’t break those sort of records without being the very best in your discipline. There will come a time when her powers wane but that isn’t now.

She started her season with a workmanlike win in the Prix D’Ispahan. The bookmakers weren’t impressed but like last year you don’t see the best of Goldikova on her first run. She has twice been defeated on her reappearance and last year only snuck home by half a length. It is unfair to judge her based on her first run back.

There is nothing to suggest she is anything other than her brilliant self. Odds of 6/4 seem generous for the best miler in perhaps the last thirty years.
