Golden Jubilee Tip: Amico Fritz

Has a terrific record when the ground is soft and ran a cracker in the race last year. Overpriced as his German form is underrated.

I’m afraid to say the Golden Jubilee is looking like another weak Group One sprint. That isn’t a huge concern as long as we can find the winner. In these big international sprints it is always the Australians that get the hype - rightly so. They produce some brilliant horses but Star Witness isn’t one of them. If he was going to be top class he would have won the King’s Stand on Tuesday. He didn’t, and is passed over.

The overseas angle is still the correct way to go. A lot less ‘sexy’ and ignored by the bookmakers is the German sprinter Amico Fritz. Last year he ran a cracker to finish fifth, in what was a much stronger renewal. He has taken a very similar route to Royal Ascot.

His seasonal reappearance was a good win in the Group Three Silberne Peitsche. The race was over seven furlongs and the slow early pace meant he pulled hard. Despite this, he had enough energy to go on and win the race - a good performance.

Watch the Silberne Peitsche

With the ground coming up soft and more rain forecast, the elements are working in his favour. When racing on going good or softer, over six furlongs Amico Fritz has a record of: 21211110. The only blemish was at Woodbine in Canada, which is forgivable.

With a favourable high draw also on his side he looks a cracking bet at 50/1.

Amico Fritz has been well backed since he was tipped. He is now a best price 20/1 with Bet365 but still worth backing.
