Diamond Jubilee Tips: Zanetto

Rapidly improving 3-year-old who was impressive last time out and this looks a moderate renewal.

Usually one of my favourite races of the year, this is an uninspiring renewal of the Diamond Jubilee (3.45 Ascot).

Society Rock is a reasonable favourite having won the race in 2011 and been successful last time out in the Duke of York. However, he loses more races than he wins at this level and the price isn’t particularly enticing.

The foreign raiders don’t look up to scratch therefore to find some value I’m taking a risk on a 3-year-old.

Zanetto has won two of his last three starts and his recent win at Newbury must go down as a career best. He matched the strong pace set by Dominate, but as the early frontrunner faded, he powered home to win by 3.25 lengths.

His winning time was good but I suspect he could run even faster if tracking a stronger pace. This is obviously a big jump in grade but there is nothing in the field to be terrified of and at 28/1 (Coral) he represents the value in the race.
