Coventry Stakes Tip: Trumpet Major

Stable have won this race for the last two years and this is their best candidate for the hat-trick.

The 4.25 Coventry Stakes is a tricky race to weigh up like many early season juvenile contests. However, with so many runners there is always some value and the bookmakers have been generous to price Trumpet Major at 16/1.

A son of Arakan he carries the same colours as half-brother Dick Turpin. A comfortable winner of a Goodwood maiden, he impressed the way he surged clear in the last furlong despite the slow early pace not suiting him. He is bred to get further in time but a strongly run six furlongs looks like his optimum trip for now.

Trainer Richard Hannon has won the race in the last two years and with Richard Hughes taking the ride this must be his best chance of completing the hat-trick.

Paddy Power are best price 16/1 and are paying ¼ odds for the top four places, making Trumpet Major a good each way bet.
