Coronation Stakes Tip: Maqaasid
Unlucky in the English and French Guineas, she is better than the form suggests.
Maqaasid deserves a change of fortune and hopefully that can come in the 3.45 Coronation Stakes. She ran a stormer to finish third at Newmarket in the 1,000 Guineas. Last off the bridle, she was travelling upsides Together until she was hampered. That cost her valuable momentum at a crucial time. Although it didn’t lose her the race, she would have finished in front of Together who she re-opposes today.
John Gosden took her to France to gain compensation in their Guineas but she suffered even worse luck. Drawn wide on a turning track she was forced to sit at the back of the pack; when the gaps came, the race was as good as over. Regardless she showed impressive speed to make up four or five places in the straight.
This filly has a good race in her and can notch up her second Royal Ascot win.
