Commonwealth Cup Tips: Caravaggio

Commonwealth Cup Tips: Caravaggio

Unbeaten sprinter who put in a huge performance on reappearance at Naas. Fastest closer by 0.86s, earning adjusted speed rating of 121.

The Commonwealth Cup is arguably the best race of the meeting and Caravaggio could take another step to becoming Europe’s best sprinter.

Last year he won over course and distance when taking the Coventry in a fast time and he seems even better as a three-year-old. His reappearance at Naas was deeply impressive, he won easily again in a fast time and showed a tremendous turn of foot to cover the final 4f, 0.86s quicker than any of his rivals.

I gave him an adjusted speed rating of 121 for that win, which puts him top of the class in sprinting terms. Blue Point and Harry Angel both recorded big speed ratings when they met at Ascot in early May, Harry Angel going onto frank the form at Haydock.

In a normal year one of them would win the Commonwealth Cup but their presence could just serve to push Caravaggio onto even bigger heights.
