Woolfall Sovereign - 31/01/2011
After eight months off the track this very lightly raced 5yo came with a storming run to pick up a minor 7furlong handicap at Wolverhampton and there were several reasons to be impressed.

On the final bend the jockey got stuck behind traffic letting eventual runner up Buxton get first run on him and lost over two lengths by the time Woolfall Sovereign could get clear. Once he did he picked up in a flash, storming down the straight to pick off Buxton, he was pushed out under hand and heels to win by half a length.

In the post race interview trainer’s wife Gay Margarson stated that the horse was so big that they had given him time to fill out, hence why this was only his sixth race at the age of five. Comments like this suggest there is plenty to come and with a mile well within his sphere, this unexposed 5yo is one to keep onside in the coming months.
