Prix De L’Abbaye Tip: Masamah

Loves racing on a sharp track and trainer knows how to win this race.

On the 8th July I suggested Masamah would win this race, he has made it to Longchamp in one piece and I’m not losing faith now.

Trainer Kevin Ryan won the race in 2006 with a horse called Desert Lord and Masamah is a very similar horse. Both have blistering early pace and that is crucial if you want to bag the favoured nearside rail. People might be put off by a draw of 10, but Desert Lord won from stall 12, early speed is more important than the draw.

Look at the winning times of the last five Abbayes:

2006: 54.8 seconds
2007: 56.7
2008: 54.4
2009: 55.1
2010: 57.0

The slowest winning time was last year, when Gilt Edge Girl won on ground described as very soft. Even under soft conditions, the final time is fast. It is no surprise that form at the quickest UK courses; Epsom, Goodwood and York transfers well to Longchamp.

Masamah’s record on those three tracks over the minimum distance reads: 118118. Call that number and directory enquires will announce him as the winner! His only two flops were at Epsom when he stumbled out the gates and at York when he raced alone on the slowest part of the track.

Back Masamah at 10/1 with Bet365 and with their non-runner no bet concession, if he is a non-runner you get your money back.
