Pontefract: Soul Stopper

I wasn’t going to put up a tip today until I saw Soul Stopper had drifted out to evens. That sort of drift might appear alarming but on paper he still remains an excellent bet. He might appear one of the more exposed runners but he progressed with every run last year.

He rounded off his season when a neck second to New London in a hot Newmarket maiden. The winner looks smart (he’s 16/1 for the Derby) and Soul Stopper gave him a proper race with the field strung out behind the leading pair. The race produced an excellent speed rating and the form was franked when the fourth horse Wholeofthemoon finished second at Kempton the other week.

Cut in the ground shouldn’t be a concern and I give Soul Stopper more than a 50/50 chance of winning this.
