O’Brien At The Double

Aiden O’Brien enjoyed an excellent weekend, training the winner of both Guineas.

Camelot took the first step on the way to a potential Triple Crown by winning the 2000 Guineas on Saturday. Bred to be a middle distance horse, the speed test of a mile at Newmarket wasn’t sure to suit. Given an ultra cool ride by Joseph O’Brien, he got up to score by a neck. The unbeaten colt is 5/4 (Ladbrokes) to win the Derby having shortened from 9/4.

Aiden O’Brien landed a Guineas double, with Homecoming Queen the surprise winner of the 1000 Guineas. The filly bolted up, winning by nine lengths, finding a huge improvement in form despite it being her 14th race. She is a best price 8/1 (Coral) to win the Oaks.

After landing the first two classics of the season, along with a bumper haul of prize money, Aidan O’Brien is 1/2 (Bet365) to win the 2012 British Flat Trainers’ Championship.
