You know what you are going to get with Ashpan Sam and with conditions in his favour, he is a big price to win the 8.15 Newmarket. With a career strike rate of 9/66, he is a sprinter who knows where the winning line is and given an easy lead he is hard to pass.
When racing in single digit fields at 6f his record is 233221137, with soft featuring in the going description that improves to 2217. The only poor run was when seventh at Windsor last August but that preceded a 284-day break so perhaps something went wrong (injury?) in the race.
The 20mm of rain yesterday only enhances his claims and with Alaadel his most likely rival, coming back from a 287-day absence Ashpan Sam is the play.
