Meydan Tips: Nocturnal Affair

No frost issues in Dubai and a good quality sprint to enjoy. The 12.45 Meydan has a very British feel, with half the field comprising horses you’d expect to see racing on a Saturday in the UK.

The 12.45 is peculiar because it is a sprint handicap where the top weighted horse is rated 112. Most of this field will be accustomed to racing off level weights in Group company, instead a horse like Inxile has to give 12lbs to Monsieur Joe.

With the field evenly matched, a few pounds in weight can make the difference. This works in favour of my selection – Nocturnal Affair.

Regular reads will remember me tipping him in a similar race at Meydan almost a month ago. He was unfortunate that day for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he ran into the improving Addictive Dream, who went onto win again. Secondly, his high draw left him isolated and forced to race away from the pace.

Under near-identical conditions, he can make amends. He has another high draw but is only three stalls away from Inxile, the likely pacemaker, meaning the race will develop up the centre of the track. David Marnane also thinks the horse will have improved since his last run. Considering he doesn’t have to carry much weight, he is a great bet at 5/1 (BetVictor).
