Won over course and distance last time and adjusted speed rating of 72 suggests he's much better than handicap mark of 65. Covered final 2f in 21.95s, a good effort on a slower summer track.
I’m surprised Royal Mariner is on the drift this morning compared to Girlswannahavefun; he is a course and distance winner (versus a 5f horse), carries less weight and is proven on the all-weather.
Last time out Royal Mariner quickened impressively to win by a cosy length, his final 2 furlong split dipping under 22s, some effort in the summer when the track rides much slower.
In victory I gave him an adjusted speed rating of 72, which outstrips his handicap mark of 65. Runner-up Rock Girl has run with credit since (although not to same speed rating) and there was a 5 length gap back to the rest. The market might be instructive but in this instance i’m happy to back the drifter.
