Lay of the Day: Reginald Claude

Reginald Claude is a fiendishly difficult ride and without a bend to race around he often gets detected early in his races.

Racheal Kneller gave Reginald Claude two of the best rides you’ll see all year to get his head in front at Lingfield during the winter but she can’t keep performing miracles.

He is not a horse who responds to pressure and therefore needs delivering as late as possible. The problem is exacerbated because he likes to race at the rear of a pack. That isn’t a problem around a bend because the field usually stays bunched together, but on a straight track he leaves himself too much ground to make up.

Without a win on turf for almost three years, he is unlikely to be favoured by conditions in the 3.00 Nottingham.
