King George Tips: Master Minded

Has ideal ground and this always the target for the season. Almost forgotten by the press, he is overpriced.

With so much hype surrounding Long Run and Kauto Star it is strange to see how Master Minded has become the forgotten horse on Boxing Day for the King George (3.10 Kempton).

It is worth reminding people that Paul Nicholls has targeted this race from the start of the season, with Master Minded trained for the three-mile contest. The Betfair Chase was earmarked as Kauto Star’s ‘Gold Cup’ with his participation at Kempton probably a bonus. Master Minded’s season is geared around this race and shouldn’t be 7/1 (Bet365) in the betting.

The step up in trip is a slight unknown for the horse, but Ruby Walsh was confident he would get three miles after winning the Melling Chase in April and I have seen nothing since to suggest otherwise.

The key to Master Minded is the ground and conditions look perfect for him. He has raced on going described as ‘good to soft’ eleven times in his career, winning ten of them, his sole defeat coming on his UK debut back in 2007.
