King George Tips: Cue Card

Impressive 26-length winner on last start and price compensates for the stamina worries.

At his peak Long Run would have a great chance to win a second King George (3.10 Kempton), unfortunately his last two runs have been 10lbs below his best according to the Racing Post Ratings. It is now questionable whether he can scale the heights again.

Riverside Theatre is worthy of respect given his excellent record at Kempton but the one potential superstar in the field is Cue Card.

Despite winning only half of six chase starts, Cue Card’s not done a lot wrong in defeat. He unseated at Cheltenham when travelling well, lost by a short-head to Bobs Worth, the Gold Cup antepost favourite, and couldn’t keep pace with the virtually unbeatable Sprinter Sacre over 2 miles.

On his last start he blitzed the field in the Haldon Gold Cup, winning by 26-lengths, registering a career high RPR of 170 in the process. The big question mark is whether he’ll get the 3-mile trip of the King George, but the 6/1 (BetVictor) more than compensates for the risk. Just because he hasn’t yet won over the trip, doesn’t mean he can’t.
