Kempton Tip: Soldier's Minute

Easy winner over course and distance a week ago and impressive on the clock. Fast overall time for the grade and quickest closer in race by 0.48s. Step change has come since being gelded.

Quickening off a solid gallop is usually the sign of a good horse and that is what we saw from Soldier’s Minute a week ago. He sat behind the pace set by Global Academy, a good yardstick in his own right, before quickened clear in the home straight to win by 4 lengths.

His closing sectional was 0.48s quicker than anything else in the field and the overall time was good, he earned an adjusted speed rating of 93. The handicapper has bumped him up 10lbs for that win but the ease of his victory, Joe Fanning never got serious in the saddle, suggests there is more to come.

Only a 4-year-old, he should still be improving and the gelding operation seems to have had a transformative effect. He can win again over course and distance.
