Kempton: Surrey Territories
Travelled strongly with 2f to go on handicap debut when a combination of a seventh furlong, strong pace and soft conditions did for him. If he can build on that promise he could go well at a price.
Surrey Territories showed a bit of promise on his handicap debut at Leicester and might be able to make his mark in this low grade. What I liked about his last run, was he was still travelling strongly with 2f to go. When he came under pressure he showed greenness, wandering around under pressure. The strong pace, given the soft conditions meant he was also getting tired and a drop in trip looks a sensible strategy.
He’s got enough early speed to suggest he can keep tabs on the leader and the way he tanked through the race suggest there is ability lurking. In a poor race, off a low mark, he can strike.
