David O'Meara has 23% strike rate in claimers and connections have found a weak contest. Starshiba struggles to win but has run well this season and they don't get any easier than this.
You don’t get many claimers nowadays and that is a shame as it offers a different dimension for owners and punters. The Horse Watchers are a shrewd operation and so I suspect Starshiba has been entered in order to win. That is backed up by David O’Meara who has a 23% strike rate in claimers.
In what looks a very weak race, Starshiba has easily the best form. Three times this season he has run speed ratings in the low 70s, which is usually good enough to win a class 5 handicap but a strike rate of 1/24 with seven second place finishes suggest he is hard to win with.
A drop back to 6f might not seem ideal but it’s the easiest opportunity he will face all season and his class should win out.
