Kempton: Alcazan

Set overly strong pace at Bath (only second turf start) but only folded late on and finished 10 lengths ahead of fellow pace-setter. Good strike rate on AW and can bounce back.

Alcazan looks a cracking bet switched back to the all-weather for the 6.30 Kempton; she is 4/13 on an artificial surface and only 2lbs above her winning mark. The reason for her generous price was her 6th place at Bath but that was only her second start on turf and she had excuses.

The pace was very strong, finishing speed well below par for the track, where fellow pacesetter Willingly finished a further 10 lengths back in last. It was clearly a pace collapse because Willingly was only touched of by a neck (at 20/1) on her next start.

Alcazan did extremely well in the circumstances to finish only 3.75 lengths behind the winner and back on her favourite surface, with no obvious pace pressure, she can bounce back.
