Huntingdon Tips: Conquisto

Forget his run in the Paddy Power and judge him on his Old Roan win instead. Record on flat tracks is 1211.

The Grade 2 Peterborough Chase is the race of the day but it’s got a very open feel to it.

Captain Chris and Riverside Theatre head the market and either could win on their best form but both have questions to answer. Captain Chris makes his belated seasonal bow after lameness ruled him out of the Amlin Chase at Ascot, whilst Riverside Theatre was below his best last season.

There is a chance both could run below par and that opens up the race for Conquisto.

He started the season in fine style by winning the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, putting in a career best performance. He struggled in the PaddyPower, finishing a distant 14th, but Steve Gollings remarked it had been a mistake going to Cheltenham, he got injured during the race but the stiff track wouldn’t have suited him anyway.

Conquisto is a speed horse and is much better on a flat track, where his record is 1211.

Tom Scudamore takes the ride and he has struck up an excellent rapport with the horse, finishing 11312 in five starts.

With good ground forecast, Huntingdon’s flat track will favour those with speed and Conquisto looks a big price at 18/1 (BetVictor).
