Haydock Tip: Kapono
Fast finisher from poor draw on seasonal return at Thirsk. Rapid closing sectional produced adjusted speed rating of 78, which suggests he is capable of running above his handicap mark.
Kapono has been tested over five, six and seven furlongs during his early career but he doesn’t lack pace and could relish a drop to 6f, a trip he’s won at before.
His seasonal bow came at Thirsk last month and he ran better than the result suggests. Held-up from a wide draw, he was too far behind the steady early gallop. Over 8 lengths to make up in the home-straight proved too much but he clocked the fastest closing sectional, earning an adjusted speed rating of 78.
In three visits to Haydock, Kapono has finished 334 and won’t be inconvenienced by any juice in the ground. He should run well.
