Great St Wilfrid: Deputise

Talented sprinter who reach rating of 101 in early career. Lost his way and subsequently moved to Michael Wigham. Ran two fair races behind steady pace in Spring and handicap mark is there to exploit.

In big field sprints at Ripon you want to be drawn on the wings. Last time there was racing at the track Watchable almost won by racing alone on the far-side and i’m therefore happy to chance those drawn low.

You cannot lower than Deputise in stall 1 and he is an interesting contender.  He was highly tried early in his career, finishing second in the 3-year-old sprint on All-Weather Finals day and reaching a peak rating of 101. Unfortunately he struggled thereafter, he barely made it to a race track, was gelded and eventually left William Haggas for Michael Wigham.

He’s raced twice for his new trainer finishing behind Fizzy Feat on the all-weather on each occasions. He wasn’t beaten far and not suited by racing in rear behind a steady gallop. He’s capable of better an it is interesting connections have waited 155 days before pitching him straight into a heritage handicap. Rated 86, there is a handicap mark to exploit and we will find our on Sunday if that was the plan all along .
