Aintree Tips: Cole Harden

Aintree Tips: Cole Harden

Merited his victory in the World Hurdle and has the beating of all his main rivals.

I must confess I don’t really understand the betting for the Liverpool Hurdle (2.50 Aintree) - the main protagonists all seem in the wrong order.

Zarkandar is the favourite at the time of writing but he was beaten fair and square in the World Hurdle. Some might argue he was unlucky when stumbling 2 out but he has never been the most fluent hurdler and that needs to be factored into his price. Even with a clear run it is far from certain he would have won.

Whisper won this race last year and finished an encouraging fifth at Cheltenham but he looks a shade below top-class.

He won a weak renewal of the Liverpool Hurdle last year and he’s never run to a Racing Post Rating above 159.

This all leaves us with World Hurdle winner Cole Harden and I’m surprised he is not shorter. He went a good gallop at Cheltenham and didn’t have an easy time of things in front.

A wind-op after the Cleeve Hurdle (24 January 2015) explains his improvement and he is the one to beat at 11/4 (Bet365).
