Gordon Richards Stakes: Nouriya

gordon richards stakes

Sir Michael Stoute has won the last three renewals of this race and has another live contender.

The 4.20 Gordon Richards Stakes is a tricky race to judge. With most of the horses making their seasonal reappearances there isn’t a lot of form to go on. On the positive side, it is a difficult race for the bookmakers to price up and they can make errors.

It looks like they have underestimated Nouriya, trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Over recent years Sir Michael has made a habit of mopping up this race, saddling the last three winners. It is not just the statistics in our favour, the horse is good too.

Nouriya had looked a progressive filly last season, winning back to back listed races. Things went wrong on her last start in the Prix De L’Opera on Arc weekend. Well beaten into seventh she suffered bad interference which compromised her race. That performance can be forgiven. The fact that she was even considered good enough to be entered is a strong endorsement of her talents.

In a six runner field a price of 6/1 is more than generous. It isn’t often you get those sort or prices for a Stoute runner with Ryan Moore on board.
