Goodwood Tips: Professor

Has produced a new career best performance every time he has raced this year.

If Professor wins the Lennox Stakes (3.05 Goodwood), he will emulate his sire Byron who won the race in 2004.

Putting aside sentimentality, there is a compelling case as to why Professor can emulate his father. A winner in five of his eight starts, Richard Hannon’s three-year-old is getting better with each race.

Professor’s Racing Post Ratings in 2013: 101-107-112-114

On ratings, Professor has achieved a career best each time he has raced this year, showing versatility in the process with wins over both six and seven furlongs.

Three-year-olds have a good record in the Lennox Stakes, winning four of the last six renewals and the 7lbs weight for age concession is a big help.

After his win at Salisbury, Richard Hughes mentioned the Group 1 Prix de la Foret as potential a target. If he is up to that standard then he should win this race because the opposition are of just Group 2 calibre.
