Goodwood Tips: Olympic Glory

Top rated horse in the field and his only defeat was to next year’s 2,000 Guineas favourite.

Having looked at the 2.35 Goodwood time and again I can’t help but feel the front of the market is the wrong way round.

Ghurair is the 9/4 favourite but he has only run once, earning an RPR of 91, helped by a favourable draw. For some reason the bookies rate him a more likely winner than Olympic Glory who is more experienced, has won a Group 2 and earned an RPR of 110 on his last start. Obviously, Ghurair has plenty of potential but I’m inclined to go with the form in the book.

So far Olympic Glory has done nothing wrong. He won his maiden at Goodwood, proving he handles the track. He then finished second behind Dawn Approach at Royal Ascot. That horse is ante-post favourite for next season’s 2,000 Guineas - not a bad yardstick.

He then beat most of today’s field in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket despite his turn of foot being blunted by the heavy conditions.

Richard Hannon has won the last two renewals of the race and at 7/2 (Bet365) he is overpriced for the hat-trick.
