Goodwood Tips: Elna Bright

Looks incredibly well handicapped, running off a career low mark at a track where he’s fared well before.

Elna Bright first went into my notebook back in October 2011 when finishing sixth over course and distance. He fared best of the horses drawn high when low numbers dominated the race.

Fast-forward 19-months and he looks a cracking bet on his return to Goodwood in the 4.05. Racing off a 17lbs lower mark he is incredibly well-handicapped and we have the added bonus that he arrives in good form.

During the winter, he was competitive on the all-weather, the highlight being a second place finish in a class 3 handicap. Last time out he finished ninth but was only beaten by 2.75 lengths and was by no means given a hard race, his jockey just pushing him out under a hands and heels ride.

With plenty of pace to aim at, off a career low mark, I would be very surprised if he didn’t go close at 5/1 (William Hill).
