Flat Racing: Fillies To Follow

Bewitched Ascot

Our racing expert gives us three horses to look out for this summer.

Breathless Kiss
The Kevin Ryan filly has been a revelation since being dropped to five furlongs and the blinkers applied. Two comfortable wins on the all weather were followed by an impressive win at Beverley. Highlighted at 16/1, she won despite bad interference, showing a great attitude to fight through the smallest of gaps. Rated 89 before that win, she should make into listed class this season. She needs a strongly run five furlong to be at her best.

Astrophysical Jet
This four year old filly contested some excellent races last year winning three of her four starts over five furlongs. If it were not for a poorly judged ride at Goodwood she would have been unbeaten over the minimum trip. Rounded off her season with a Group 3 success at Newbury, she should be even better this year. Something like the King’s Stand at Ascot could well be within her sphere.

Bewitched
Trained in Ireland by Charles O’Brien, we saw her a handful of times in the UK last season, enough to create a big impression. As a three year old she raced six times over 6 furlongs, winning all but one of her races. She likes to race from off the pace but has a devastating turn of foot as witnessed when winning a Group 3 at Ascot at the backend of the season. Expect her to be competing in all the top sprints with the Golden Jubilee and July Cup obvious targets.
