Exeter Tips: Cue Card

Won by 26-lengths last year and a top-class individual. A duel-Grade 1 winner and only horse to give Sprinter Sacre a race.

I must confess Cue Card is one of my favourite National Hunt horses; I tipped him four times last season and I feel he never quite gets the credit he deserves.

Last season he won two Grade 1 chases and he was the only horse to give Sprinter Sacre a run for his money. If Nicky Henderson’s champion is a horse of a generation then Cue Card isn’t far behind.

The questions today are can he win the 2.50 Exeter and is he a good bet?

The answer to the first part is undeniable – yes. He won the race last year and although he carries a lot of weight, he’s actually run above his mark on his last two starts.

As for the price, I’m surprised he’s not odds-on. The likes of William’s Wishes and Fago have claims on the pick of their form but you could have said that about Edgardo Sol and Menorah who were thrashed in this race last year.

I think class will win the day and 5/4 (BetVictor) on Cue Card is hard to resist.
