Exeter Tips: Cue Card

Big improver last season and the Arkle runner-up has the best form in the book.

The Haldon Gold Cup is the feature at 2.50 Exeter and it is a rare treat to enjoy a Grade 2 contest on a Tuesday.

There are several useful horses in the field but I’m most excited about watching Cue Card. Despite failing to win a big pot he looked progressive last season. Having started with a Racing Post Rating of 146, he improved every outing until hitting a peak of 167 in the Arkle.

There was little chance of him beating Sprinter Sacre at Cheltenham, the winner might turn out to be the best 2-mile chaser of a generation, but getting within 7 lengths was a fine run.

His big challenger could be Edgardo Sol. He put in a startling performance at Aintree winning by 14 lengths but was it a flash in the pan? He has never run nearly as well before or since.

On the balance of form Cue Card is the one to beat and having priced him up at 4/6, there is some value in the 10/11 with Bet365
