Down Royal Tips: Rocky Creek
Ran well last season despite numerous setbacks. A wind operation in the off-season could yield dramatic improvement.
The JNWine.Com Champion Chase (2.30 Down Royal) is arguably the race of the day and I’m siding with Paul Nicholls, a man who has won it four times in the last seven years.
Nicholls clearly know what type of horse he needs and Rocky Creek fits the bill.
Last season he looked a potential Gold Cup player after finishing second in the Hennessy at Newbury.
Unfortunately, he suffered a number of setbacks and didn’t quite live up to his early promise, despite running to a mark in the mid-160.
During the off-season, he had a breathing operation and that can often have a dramatic effect on a horse’s form.
With relatively few miles on the clock we could see the real Rocky Creek this season and he’s a great bet at 9/2 (BetVictor).
