Chester Vase Tip: Treasure Beach

Aiden O’Brien has a 33% strike rate at Chester and his horse is over priced given the paucity of the field.

A disappointing turnout for the Chester Vase at 2.55 with only two horses holding Derby entries and they are the ones to focus on.

Twice a winner of the race in the last four years, Aiden O’Brien saddles Treasure Beach for the contest. A winner in Ireland, he looked a useful prospect last year until bad luck scuppered his end of season. He was sent off 5/4 favourite at Listowel where he was defeated by letting the leader get first run on him. Then at Ascot he was thrashed by Frankel, although he again suffered interference. In both of his runs he was staying on as if a step up in trip was what he needed.

The only realistic challenger in the race is Nathaniel. With just three runs under his belt he is very unexposed, making it a hard to recommend him at short odds. A runner up spot in a hot Doncaster maiden is the best he has achieved to date. Given the disparity in odds Treasure Beach is the value.

*Treasure Beach’s SP was 7/2 therefore those who backed him at 3/1 with Bet365 benefit from the Best Odds Guaranteed concession.
