Chester Tip: Sparklealot

Previous C&D winner and subject of a gamble at May Festival. That went awry but has run well since, setting an overly strong pace in the conditions at Haydock when not beaten far.

Sparklealot was a big market mover over course and distance at Chester’s May Festival and although he only managed sixth he could be the subject of a gamble again. His draw is no worse (stall 9 again) and on paper this is an easier race and he is 3lbs lower in the weights.

His eye-catching run came at Haydock last time where he set an overly strong gallop in testing conditions. Adjusting for sectionals he earned a speed rating of 100+ but that is unreliable because of the bottomless ground. However, it is fair to say he went to quick in the conditions, with fellow pacesetter a beaten last, 20 lengths behind the winner.

Sparklealot is lightly raced, potentially progressive and runs well at Chester. He has numerous big speed ratings under his belt and is probably better than his mark.
