Cheltenham Tips: Quartz de Thaix

Won four of his last five starts on ground described as ‘good to soft’ or worse.

The defection of Bobs Worth and Tidal Bay has taken some of the shine off the Argento Chase (2.25 Cheltenham) but it makes it a more interesting betting contest.

With question marks over Grands Crus, Imperial Commander and Hunt Ball – well being the first two, ground the latter - the race has a very open look to it.

The going is rated heavy, soft in places, conditions which play into the hands of Quartz de Thaix. He has looked a progressive chaser this season winning his first two starts and then going down by only 0.75 lengths to Master Overseer in a decent handicap at Cheltenham. The key to this horse however is the ground.

Any going: 42322U1170112
Good to Soft or worse: 232211112

But for his close defeat last time out, he would have won his last five starts when encountering going rated ‘good to soft’ or worse. With conditions in his favour he is too big at 10/1 with Stan James.
