Cheltenham Tips: Parsnip Pete

Looked a promising novice last season and although he struggled when upped in grade there’s probably some improvement left in him.

The first day of Cheltenham’s Open meeting has several tricky races but Parsnip Pete looks slightly overpriced in the 1.35.

Last season he was a useful novice, winning two races before losing the plot in the New Year. I was particularly impressed by his win at Newbury last November because it was achieved in a good time for the grade.

Parsnip Pete is a big price because he was well beaten in the Grand Annual at last season’s Festival but he ran a bit better than his finishing position and it was a tough race for a novice.

Tom George sent him for a spin over hurdles last month, which he won, in preparation for this race and at 10/1 (Bet365) he has been underestimated by the market.

With 17 runners, he looks a solid each-way bet with 1/4 odds for a top-4 finish.
