Cheltenham Tips: Midnight Chase
Loves the track (5 wins / 9 starts) and carried big weights to victory before.
Midnight Chase is the best horse in the 1.55 Cheltenham but can he win carrying 11-12 on his back? Given his record under big weights, especially at the track, the answer for me is yes.
Neil Mulholland’s charge has carried 11-12 to victory twice in his career and has done all his winning with 11st+ on his back. Furthermore, his record at Cheltenham is imperious, with five victories from nine starts.
Winner of the race two years ago, Midnight Chase is only 5lbs higher in the handicap, which doesn’t seem like a bad deal considering he’s run well in a couple of Gold Cups and won the Grade 2 Argento Chase.
His third place behind Silviniaco Conti in the Charlie Hall Chase was an encouraging seasonal reappearance. Expected to come on for the run, he looks the likely winner at a generous 4/1 (William Hill).
