Cheltenham Tips: Hidden Keel

Looks well handicapped for his upwardly mobile yard. Paddy Brennan has ridden him seven times, winning three.

Charlie Longsdon has been enjoying a couple of excellent years, with this 2011-12 season destined to be his best in terms of winners. His yard is clearly on the up and they can start the New Year with Hidden Keel taking the valuable 2.10 at Cheltenham.

Last time out he finished 19 lengths behind Gauvain in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon, but considering how badly off he was at the weights, it was a fine performance. He finished 14.5 lengths behind Somersby, when he would have been 14lbs better off with the horse in handicap. Somersby went on to finish fourth in the Grade One King George on Boxing Day.

All this is a long-winded way to say that Hidden Keel is well handicapped.

The ground at Cheltenham is forecast to be good which is a bonus, as he wouldn’t want it soft. Paddy Brennan taking the ride is also a plus, enjoying a good strike rate on the horse. At 12/1 (Bet365) he looks the pick of the race.
